ASB
ASB (Associate Student Body) is a student-led class where students are responsible for planning and executing various activities and events at the Phelan campus. Students who are interested in building leadership skills, and wanting to positively increase and influence school spirit should consider enrolling in this course. By being involved in leadership roles on campus, students can learn important skills such as teamwork, communication, organization, and problem-solving. Students can expect to organize school events such as spirit weeks, quarterly Video Game Nights, and themed celebrations. Overall, participating in ASB provides valuable experiences and opportunities for personal and leadership growth for Excelsior students.
Dual Enrollment Classes
Dual enrollment is a program that allows students in 7-12th grade to enroll in college courses and earn high school credits simultaneously. It benefits students by providing advanced coursework, early exposure to college-level academics, and the opportunity to accumulate college credits before graduating from high school. Dual enrollment can also help save students time and money by reducing the number of courses needed to complete a college degree and course are offered to Excelsior students at a reduced rate or even free. Additionally, dual enrollment helps students transition to the rigor of college academics and explore different fields of student before committing to a major and with the support of Excelsior staff.
Educational Field Trips & College Tours
Educational field trips are outings organized by Excelsior Phelan staff to provide students with hands-on learning experiences outside of the classroom. These trips aim to enhance students' understandings of various subjects by immersing them in real-world settings related to curriculum or career goals. Students may participate in a wide range of field trips such as visits to museums, science centers, college tours. Participating in these educational field trips can provide students with a tangible connection to their learning experience while simultaneously encourages social interactions with peers, building teamwork, and cultural appreciation, which can enrich students educational experience at Excelsior, and positively contribute to students' holistic development.
